JAKARTA (FORESTHINTS.NEWS) - Indonesian Environment and Forestry Minister Professor Siti Nurbaya remains very confident that the country’s populations of Sumatran, Tapanuli, and Bornean orangutans will continue to grow.
"On this year's World Orangutan Day, I would like to reiterate how optimistic we are about continuing our efforts to ensure that orangutan populations keep growing across millions of hectares of their habitat," enthused Minister Nurbaya.
The Minister emphasized that this optimism aligns with the optimistic theme of Indonesia's 78th Independence Day, "Moving Forward for an Advanced Indonesia."
"Once again, I would like to stress how steadfast we are in our pursuit of ensuring the continuous growth of Indonesian orangutan populations. There is no room for pessimism in this regard," she affirmed.
The video below, captured by Minister Nurbaya herself while conducting field work at Tanjung Puting National Park (July 22), is described by the Minister as a source of inspiration for all of us to continue progressing towards a prosperous Indonesia. This includes efforts to guarantee the sustained growth of the country’s orangutan populations.
Continuing forward momentum
Minister Nurbaya explained that maintaining optimism involves "moving forward, advancing, and leading the way in ensuring the ongoing growth of orangutan populations."
"Our optimism is not tainted by doubt, even in the face of various threats to the growth of our orangutan populations. Hence, we continue to move forward," she asserted.
The Minister once again underlined the importance of productive partnerships to enhance multi-stakeholder collaborations in a collective effort to safeguard Indonesia's growing populations of orangutans.
"Being in a productive partnership within a collaborative framework ensures that we are engaged in constructive efforts to make certain, among other things, that our orangutan populations keep thriving," she stated.
Minister Nurbaya further elaborated that "productive partnerships provide all of us with the opportunity and space to progress together, moving towards achieving our multiple targets, one of which is ensuring the growth of orangutan populations."
